Registered Heifers

In our registered heifer program, we work to amplify the same standards that we have for our cows. We raise heifers that show a gentle disposition and good weaning weights. It is important that our heifers inherit certain traits to add capacity, depth, and quality structure into their future calves.

The B.A.R does not believe in supplemental feeding of their heifer calves up to weaning because of studies showing that the additional energy gained by feed can lead to fat deposits in the udder and negatively affect that heifer’s ability to milk over her lifespan. Creating yearling heifers that are too fat not only decreases their ability to mature and ovulate but also negatively affects their estrous synchronization.

Wayne only keeps cows who are excellent mothers with great milking traits so that their progeny can offer the same things back to any herd. The ranch works regularly to cull any problematic traits from their cows. This is ensured through regular genetic testing, so that we can only offer the best heifers to commercial and registered buyers, always.
